‘Agent Carter’ star Hayley Atwell has an addiction, and she’s dragging everyone down with her, but in the end, she knows she’s staying on top.
You might remember Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers(Chris Evans)’s love interest slash super cool agent from ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, or leading SSR officer in her Marvel show ‘Agent Carter’. If you looked through her past Instagram posts, you might notice that she has a slight Dubsmash problem. If you don’t know what Dubsmash is, you should feel fortunate that you are being spared from the viral app’s videos, in which users record themselves lip-synching to a well-known audio clip, flooding through your Instagram feed. However, Hayley just made everything a lot more interesting.
Just this week, the Marvel star took part in a Dubsmash war with the cast of another Marvel show, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” , so epic that the victory caused a rumble among the fandom at Tumblr, and the victory lap video? That’s another story. Here’s how out it all went down:
Here we have rare human specie Hayley Atwell minding her own Dubsmash business, participating in the occasional twitter banters with Chris Evans via Dubsmash and casually dragging his brother, Scott onto her side:
And you know, performing great “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” hits with co-star James D’Arcy, who plays Peggy’s partner Edwin Jarvis, at San Diego Comic-Con:
Suddenly, from across the room, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’ star Chloe Bennet, throws down the Dubsmash gauntlet onto the Agent Carter table:
Hayley acknowledges, with a very enthusiastic James literally right behind her:
Proceeds by hurling the gauntlet across the ocean while sharing a Taylor Swift slash goat moment on a Comic Con floor (we realize this is a very weird sentence):
*takes moment to appreciate James D’Arcy’s dedication to war*
Just when we thought the S.H.I.E.L.D. team is admitting defeat, the next day, the gang fights back by belting out Queen’s “We Are the Champions” (beautiful song choice by the way) with Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Phil Coulson on the show, cosplaying as the one and only Peggy Carter. Anyone seen the gauntlet?
The question is, did he get the outfit only for this video, or is he secretly a super Peggy Carter fangirl, hmmmm? HMMMMMMMMM?!?!?!
Hayley, James, and their Comic-Con lanyard headbands acknowledge S.H.I.E.L.D.’s epic punch-back.
Looks like S.H.I.E.L.D. is happy to accept the Dubsmash victory as the show’s undercover agent, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) post a Twitter video of James having a Dubsmash war breakdown. All while crying “I did not think it was gonna be like this… Hayley’s gonna…”. “She’s gonna shit herself” another voice replied.
Caption? “This is what defeat looks like…

Little did those poor kids know…
During the interlude, in all good spirit, Hayley retweeted fanart, trash talking, and the occasional accusations of Brett Dalton being a real life team undercover spy.
And it was all fun and game, until four days after team Carter’s “defeat”, when Ms. Atwell drew a little attention to a certain Marie Claire article and got a little vicious:
Turns out, the article has a little exclusive Dubsmash of the Team Carter duo, singing a little “Another One Bites The Dust”, with Dubsmash war guest star, Captain America himself.
As revealed in the Avengers movie, Agent Coulson from team S.H.I.E.L.D. had a little fangirl crush on Captain America as a kid
and still do tbh, so as a hit-back, Hayley went to the ever-so-glorious Chris Evans himself working on set of ‘Captain America: Civil War’.
As a result they picked up their Dubsmash trophy with a video bound to break team S.H.I.E.L.D.’s heart. While the Hayley and James duo ripped apart a poster to Coulson from Steve himself stating “To Coulson- lots of love -Steve”, Cap appeared from his shield singing along in full costume and dubbed team Carter the victor with his tongue sticking out. You know,
Miley Rolling Stones style.
As if the Marvel fandom flipped over, it seems like all the fangirls and fanboys shed a tear/wail simultaneously.
Honestly, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ms. Atwell flew all the way to the Captain America set for this damn Dubsmash, that woman knows no limit tbh and it’s the best thing ever.
Speaking of no limit, just a victory is obviously not enough for team Carter. To add a little icing on the cake, Team Carter took a victory lap with a sweep, dip, kiss Dubsmash featuring Chris and Hayley with a cute and sad Jarvis on the side, or er, corner.
Hear that? That’s the sound of the fandom combusting.

If they did fly to the set, they really know how to get the most out of their miles.
And honestly, Hayley, if you’re reading this, please know you win. You win at Dubsmash, Dubsmash wars, life. EVERYTHING.
Hayley Atwell more like Hayley I need an Advil because you’re giving a headache and I will never be able to sleep again without that god damn Dubsmash repeating in my head over and over.
We wish you all the best, continue to slay everything and everyone. Please and thank you.
All the love.
Update: Haley and James DID fly all the way to Atlanta from San Diego for this damn dubsmash. They booked a last minute flight and flew back across the country on the same day. A+++ for dedication.
